Week in Review: March 3
Hey kids, it’s that time again. When I scour my memory to pull out the most memorable moments from the last 7 days. One would think this wouldn’t take much effort. Well . . . ouch. I think I’m gonna have a brain-pull trying to recall anything from the last week. Blurry. Very blurry. Sunday: The Oscars. Where there was much hullabaloo about The Artist and a number of other movies I didn’t see this year – except for Bridesmaids and The Help. Monday: Zane got to work with color during his art class today. As he worked with his teacher Miss Rachel, I took the time to get things done in my office. Where the lesson is usually 30 minutes. I glanced at the clock 1 hour later realizing they were still working. He loved his lesson. And I now...
A South Asian Super Bowl
After living through two Super Bowl seasons in the ‘burgh, I have learned that Pittsburgh does football their way. Whereas I’ve been to many Super Bowl parties in different states over the years, there is just something electric about football here in Steeler Nation – even when our team isn’t on the field. So, this year, when our plans included watching the Super Bowl at the home of a local Pakistani doctor who recently helped to sponsor a family of Pakistani refugees to come to America, I knew that the unique experience that is Super Bowl in the ‘burgh would once again trump all others. We learned a few weeks ago of a family from Pakistan who, due to their Christian beliefs, were subject to violent persecution back in their home...
On Being A Professional Non-Professional (Say, “What?”)
Yes. That’s what I meant. I could be considered a professional non-professional. During my senior year in high school, I won an award for a video I produced via our school’s “state of the ’80′s art” television production studio. From childhood through high school I was usually the performer (stage, on-camera) so learning to write and produce videos became a new hobby. There was no digital editing back then. Just a turn of the knob, and clicks of buttons, and glitches. I remember lots of glitches. I entered Ohio University intent on becoming a video producer upon graduation. I even looked into producing patient films for hospitals. I did well in my course-work in college, but never completely dove in as much as a I could have....
Facebook: “I thought you gave it up!”
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, I’ve been more active on my personal wall these days. Facebook, (or more specifically, my personal profile page on FB) and I, decided to take a break back in November. We were having issues. So, we agreed to a separation. As you know, (if you have read my posts on this subject: see “Facebook” under Flavors and Blends) I continued to stay very active on my Fit With Jo wall during this time. For along with it being what one could call the “storefront” for my Beachbody business, it also serves as a place for like-minded people to be encouraged with their overall fitness goals. Me, included. I closed my personal wall to outside comments or tagging (I have to approve all status updates, pictures, videos, etc. in...

Facebook: You Talkin’ to Me? (Well, no, actually.)
The wisdom of Corky Sinclair, ” . . . people don’t like fire, poked, poked in their noses, you know when you get a cinder from a barbecue right on the end of your nose and you kind of make that face, you know, that’s not a good thing . . . ” Facebook is a funny cinder. Via status updates, all participants reveal something about themselves – their likes, dislikes, ideas, grievances, joys, needs, weekend plans, frustrations at work, what music we like, photos, etc. Everyone. Yes, EVERYONE, as in you and me. We talk about ourselves on Facebook. It’s kind of the way it works. All people. (If we can agree on that, then we can keep going here.) However, on the recipient’s end of these updates there is a tendency to personalize...
